PHILADELPHIA -- The La Salle University field hockey team (3-5, 0-2 A-10) dropped a 4-1 decision to UMass (4-5, 2-0 A-10) in its Atlantic 10 home opener on Friday at Hank DeVincent Field. Freshman
Regan Dougherty scored the lone goal for the Explorers, who entered halftime tied 1-1 but saw the Minutewomen score three unanswered goals in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass took possession off a foul and registered the first goal of the game at the 24:55 mark, as Katherine Furry tallied a goal for the Minutewomen.
- La Salle responded quickly to even the score when Dougherty found the back of the cage less than two minutes later off an assist from senior Logan Oh to tie the game up, 1-1.
- The Minutewomen broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when Lucy Cooper scored off an assist from Rachael Burchell.
- Despite several impressive saves by goalkeeper Emma Provost, UMass pulled ahead with two more goals to earn a 4-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Amber Blackshear led the Explorers offensively with four shots, two of which were on goal.
- La Salle held the edge in penalty corners for the second straight game (6-4).
