PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University field hockey team (4-5) defeated Vermont (3-6) in an overtime decision on Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. Junior
Chloe Lucky scored the game-deciding goal in the last second of overtime for the Explorers, who snapped a five-match losing skid with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- La Salle got six shots off in the first half while keeping Vermont scoreless. The teams were tied 0-0 going into the second, building suspense for the action forthcoming.
- Senior Logan Oh scored the first goal of the game off of an assist from junior Lauren Lechleitner to put La Salle in the lead.
- Vermont came back with two goals, both of which were scored by junior Rachel Phillips, for the Catamounts to pull ahead, 2-1.
- Sophomore Amber Blackshear returned to the field reinvigorated after a timeout called by head coach Kelly Broadway at the 58:18 mark. Blackshear found the back of the cage three minutes later to tie up the game, 2-2, with nine minutes left in play.
- The second half ended with the score still locked, driving the game into overtime.
- Junior Chloe Lucky dictated the final outcome, scoring the game-winning goal with one second remaining on the clock. Lechleitner had the assist, making it her second of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Blackshear's goal marked her third of the season, Oh recorded her fourth, and Lucky registered her first on the year.
- Lechleitner's two assists doubled her career assist total in one game.
- Goalkeeper Emma Provost made four saves in goal for the Explorers.
