Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The La Salle University field hockey team fell to Saint Louis, 3-2, in a hard-fought battle on Friday evening. The game saw the Explorers register goals in both halves before both teams went scoreless through a pair of overtime periods, forcing a shootout. The Billikens were able to edge La Salle in the penalty stroke portion and earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Logan Oh supplied an assist for junior Lauren Lechleitner to score the first goal of the game, putting the Explorers at a 1-0 advantage over Saint Louis.
- SLU came back with a goal from Ashlee Kothenbeuttel to tie it up 1-1 before halftime.
- Senior Megan Kida found the cage three minutes into the second half off of a penalty corner from junior Amanda Chapin, pushing the visitors in front, 2-1.
- Emily Wastell found the back of the cage at the 44:25 mark to even out the score for SLU.
- Lechleitner took another shot on goal with two minutes remaining in play, but the teams were stuck 2-2 at the end of the second half, calling for overtime.
- The Explorers and Billikens went scoreless through overtime, sending the game into a shootout.
- Carly Kissinger scored the game-deciding goal in that shootout for SLU resulting in a final score of 3-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Lechleitner's goal was her first of the season, while Oh's assist marked her fourth.
- La Salle outshot SLU (11-9) and lead the game in penalty corners (8-7).
- Senior Megan Kida registered her fourth goal on the year.
