PHILADELPHIA – After a tough defeat on Wednesday, the La Salle University men's soccer team will wrap up a four-game road stretch at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Explorers nearly overcame a 2-0 deficit against Soccer Six opponent Villanova, who is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, but fell short in a 3-2 decision on Wednesday.
- Sophomore Soji Olatoye tallied his second goal of the season in the 36th minute to make it a 2-1 game at halftime.
- After Villanova regained a two-goal advantage, freshman Bryce Gabelhart scored his first collegiate goal to bring the Explorers within one.
- La Salle had three shots in the final two minutes, but couldn't convert, as Villanova hung on.
- Senior goalkeeper Cameron Keys notched a season-high four saves for the Explorers.
SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS
- LIU Brooklyn enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak and a 3-3-1 overall record.
- The Blackbirds have yet to lose on their home field, with a 2-0-1 home mark.
- LIU Brooklyn defeated Rider in a 3-0 shutout this past Saturday and topped Loyola Marymount, 3-1, in California before that. La Salle fell to Rider, 1-0, on Sept. 8.
- La Salle and LIU Brooklyn have also both played Iona, with the Explorers earning a 2-1 win, while the Blackbirds drew a 1-1 tie.
- Fredrik Mathisen leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. Rasmus Hansen has scored three goals, including two game-winners, and Romario Guscott has two goals and two assists.
- The Blackbirds have used three different goalies through seven matches, owning a combined goals against average of 1.52 and a .784 save percentage.
