Men's Swimming and Diving | January 26, 2019
EMMITSBURG, Md. -- The Explorers swimming & diving teams completed a clean sweep of Mount St. Mary's for the third consecutive season. The men have been beating teams with ease as of late; after a 134-73 result, their winning streak is now at four to start the Spring semester. The women's team have steadily improved in their own right, and it finally showed on record with their first triumph of the season--a commanding 125-87 victory.
MEET NOTES
- La Salle put the meet to bed early as a swimmer or diver topped the results in the first 14 events. Mount St. Mary's Jordan Friedman eventually claimed the women's 100 Free, but the Explorers would then win the next five events and exhibition swim thereafter.
- The Explorers have navigated The Mount well during their current three-season sweep of the Emmitsburg team. The women have won by a combined score of 358-222, while the men's margin is even larger at 367-197.
- Brillance across the pool: the men won nine individual events while the women claimed eight. Zachary Wolbert (200 IM and 100 Fly), Aleksandar Nikolic (200 and 400 Free), and Anne Moser (400 and 800 Free) were all multiple-winning swimmers on the day.
- It wasn't just the winners who impressed, but the team times as a whole. The Explorers went 1-2-3 in four events and 1-2 in an additional five, meaning La Salle athletes finished in the top-two (nine times) more often than winning with one athlete alone (eight times).
- Speaking of team times and fast starts, La Salle claimed the 400 Medley Relays in both the men's and women's events to begin the meet. In the first event, the women recorded a top-finishing time of 4:29:43, while directly after them, the men won gold with a time of 3:50.81.
- Swimming Free: of the 17 individual event victories, nine were of the Freestyle variety. Nikolic claimed two along with Moser, while Sarah Wyant (200 Free), Olivia DiStefano (50 Free), Gustov Swedenborg (800 Free), Marcus Forsgren (50 Free), and Norm Gregory (100 Free) rounded out the dominance.
UP NEXT
- The Explorers will hope their fast start to the semester continues. They'll be eyeing top times at the Villanova Sprint Fest on February 2nd, with action beginning at 12 p.m.
