PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Freshman swimmer
Zachary Wolbert has been elected Men's Performer of the Week, the Atlantic 10 announced on Tuesday.
Wolbert earned the award for a number of individual triumphs last week as the Explorers went 2-0 vs Loyola (MD.) and Mount St. Mary's. On Monday (1/21) against the Greyhounds, he picked up three wins: in the 100 Fly with a time of 50.63, in the 200 Fly with a finish of 1:50.05, and a 200 IM victory clocked at 1:53.00. He was also part of the 200 Medley Relay that took gold at the meet. Against the Mount on Saturday (1/26) he extended his weekly win tally to five; Wolbert touched first in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.74 (adjusted to 52.01 in sc yards) and won the 200 IM at a pace of 2:07.29 (adjusted to 1:54.67 in sc yards). Again, he took gold in a relay as part of La Salle's 400 meter Medley team.
Overall, Wolbert recorded five individual wins and 45 points to go along with two relay victories and 22 points--an altogether tally of seven wins and 67 points for the rookie. This is the first time Wolbert has been recognized for the Performer of the Week honor, having previously won A-10 Rookie of the Week back in October.
The freshman standout will aim to continue his strong debut campaign at the Villanova Sprint Fest on Saturday. Action begins at 12 p.m.
