Second-Half Comeback Leads Field Hockey to 3-2 Win Over Saint Francis

PHILADELPHIA - Trailing 2-0 early in the third quarter, the La Salle University field hockey team stormed back to score three unanswered goals and earn a 3-2 victory over Saint Francis U. at Hank DeVincent Field on Friday. Senior Chloe Lucky registered a goal and assisted on the game winner for the Explorers, who with the win improve to 3-1 in the Atlantic 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite a dominant first half, La Salle found itself trailing at halftime as the Red Flash capitalized on their only scoring chance in the 23rd minute.
  • The Explorers had 16 shots over the first 30 minutes and held a decisive 12-0 edge in penalty corners, but could not find the scoring touch. 
  • Following intermission, Saint Francis used its first penalty corner to its advantage as Samantha Olton scored to make it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
  • La Salle continued to control possession throughout the third quarter and finally broke through when Lucky flicked one past the SFU goalie off a feed from classmate Amanda Chapin.
  • In the 53rd minute, freshman Kelsey Jones found the back of the cage for the second time this season to knot the contest at 2-2 with just under eight minutes remaining in regulation.
  • The chances continued to pile up for the Explorers, as they used a trapping press to create havoc for the Red Flash.
  • Just over three minutes after the equalizing tally, freshman Samie Hackman finished on the doorstep of goal to give the Explorers their first lead of the game.
  • La Salle held on over the final 4:41 to seal a thrilling comeback win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Explorers outshot the Red Flash by a 28-3 margin and through four Atlantic 10 games have a 72-19 advantage in the category.
  • La Salle also has 48 penalty corners through its first four league games, with the opponents accumulating 19.
  • Sophomore Cassie Kincaid played the fourth quarter and went untested but did pick up the victory in goal for the Explorers.
