Chapin Moves Up Career Assists List in Loss at Villanova

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - The La Salle University field hockey team battled back from two early deficits to tie Villanova at 2-2 early in the second half. But the Wildcats would go on to score six of the next seven goals in the contest to defeat the Explorers, 8-3, in non-conference action on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Villanova broke the seal in the 18th minute as Megan Vermeil registered her fifth goal of the year.
  • Seniors Chloe Lucky and Amanda Chapin teamed up for the first time in the 21st minute, with Chapin assisting Lucky for a goal that tied the score at 1-1.
  • The Wildcats scored again less than three minutes later to regain the lead, and would go into halftime with a 2-1 lead despite the fact that the Explorers had outshot them, 7-5.
  • Just 37 seconds into the second half, the veteran duo of Chapin and Lucky combined for another equalizing tally and knotted the contest at 2-2.
  • Over the next eight minutes, Villanova scored twice before freshman Samie Hackman scored for the fourth time this season to bring the Explorers to within one.
  • That is as close as they would come down the stretch, however, as the Wildcats scored right before the end of the third quarter and three more times in the fourth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Chapin also assisted on Hackman's goal in the second half to up her total to nine this season.
  • The total ties her for fourth on the La Salle single-season list with a trio of former Explorers.
  • She has now totaled 17 assists during her career to place her in a tie for sixth on the La Salle career list.
  • For the game, La Salle and Villanova each had 19 shots and the Explorers held a 10-7 edge in penalty corners.
  • Three of Villanova's goals came via penalty stroke.
