Field Hockey Suffers 3-1 Setback at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - The La Salle University field hockey team raced out to an early lead and remained in front for the majority of the first half in its road contest at Richmond on Friday evening. Unfortunately for the Explorers, a pair of goals right before intermission gave the Spiders a lead they would not relinquish in a 3-1 defeat. The loss drops La Salle to 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play (6-8 overall), while Richmond improves to 8-6 and 4-1 in league competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Explorers worked the ball down the field and earned a penalty corner in the game's ninth minute.
  • After an initial attempt, freshman Beau Bakker punched home her fourth goal of the season off a feed from classmate Kelsey Jones to give La Salle a 1-0 lead.
  • The lead held up until late in the second quarter, when Richmond scored twice within a 1:10 span to take a 2-1 advantage right before halftime.
  • Addie Nash, who scored the go-ahead goal with just 12 seconds left in the opening half, scored again in the 34th minute to give the home team a two-goal cushion.
  • The margin remained two the rest of the way, as junior goalkeeper Cassie Kincaid made eight of her 11 saves in the second half to keep the Explorers within striking distance.
  • Senior Lauren Lechleitner had a team-high two shots, one of which was on goal.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle remains in Virginia for another Atlantic 10 matchup on Sunday, Oct. 20 against VCU, which is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
