Men’s Soccer Hosts Villanova for Shot at Soccer Six Title

PHILADELPHIA – On Tuesday, the La Salle University men's soccer team will host rival Villanova for a shot at the Philadelphia Soccer Six title. Action from McCarthy Stadium will begin at 7 p.m.

SOCCER SIX CHAMPIONSHIP

Philadelphia Soccer Six title hopes are on the line, as the winner of Tuesday's match would earn at least a share of the city crown.
Both teams enter at 1-0-0 in Soccer Six play and each of the six teams play two Soccer Six games. A draw would leave the door open for Penn or Drexel to win the title.
La Salle last won the Soccer Six in 2017, coincidentally sharing the title with Villanova. Senior Pat McCarthy, a sophomore at the time, scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Drexel to secure the crown.

ATHLETES HELPING ATHLETES

La Salle will have an honorary captain, Matt Beckman, with the team on Tuesday through Athletes Helping Athletes.
Athletes Helping Athletes provides awareness and community support by having special needs athletes serve as honorary captains for participating teams.

LAST TIME OUT

The Explorers fell to Atlantic 10 leader Saint Louis on Saturday, 2-0.
Sophomore Connor Sweeney registered two shots on goal and freshman Franc Gamiz Quer recorded a pair of shots.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA

The Wildcats enter the contest 7-4-1 overall, 1-2-1 in the Big East and 1-4-1 on the road.
Villanova fell at No. 10 St. John's on Saturday, 4-0. The Wildcats earned a 1-0 Soccer Six win over Temple last month and also notably defeated A-10 member Fordham, 1-0.
Carson Williams has driven Villanova's success as a brick wall in goal. He owns a 0.57 goals against average to go with an .851 save percentage and eight shutouts.
Offensively, Lyam Mackinnon leads the way with two goals and four assists, while Evan Vare has three goals to his credit.
