Men's Soccer Stunned by Villanova in 88th Minute

PHILADELPHIA - Villanova scored a short-handed goal in the 88th minute to break a 1-1 tie, stunning the La Salle University men's soccer team, 2-1, in Philadelphia Soccer Six action from McCarthy Stadium Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Freshman Isak Sedin scored his second goal in the last three games to put La Salle ahead in the 30th minute off an assist from fellow rookie Luis Puchol.
  • However, Villanova drew a penalty kick just 66 seconds later and Theo Quartey converted the opportunity to even the score at one apiece. The two teams entered the halftime break knotted at one.
  • In the 70th minute, Villanova's Shane Bradley drew his second yellow card of the game, culminating in a red card and a man-up advantage for La Salle the rest of the way.
  • But the Explorers couldn't take advantage, and instead, the Wildcats pushed on a breakaway that resulted in a wide-open shot for Seidu Shamsudeen, who snuck in the game-winning goal with 2:31 remaining.

  • The Explorers tripled the Wildcats' shot total, 15-5, and doubled their shots on goal, 8-4.
