Men's Swimming and Diving | October 2, 2019
PHILADELPHIA – Men's swimming & diving posted its 2019-20 roster and reveals the addition of 12 new Explorers. With the influx of a dozen freshman to the squad, and only two graduating athletes, the men's roster swells from 17 last season to 26 this season.
Head coach
Jamie Platt had this to say on his latest freshman class: "With a class of this size, it is exciting to think of the impact they can have. The best part, so far, has been their open-minded approach to training with our team. I am excited to see them help us grow as a group."
MEET THE CLASS OF 2023
Sebastian Aguirre
- Hometown: Bradenton, Florida
- High School: Lakewood Ranch
- Event: Butterfly
- Major: Biology
- Notes: Aguirre finished as a state medalist in all four of his years, including a second-place finish as a senior. He was a team captain his final two years at Lakewood Ranch, and his team won county championships in 2017 and 2018. Extracurricular activities include four years of concert band and jazz band, in which he was lead tuba and lead trombone respectively.
Matt Brajuka
- Hometown: Toronto, Ontario
- High School: Michael Power / St. Joseph
- Event: Freestyle
- Major: Political Science
- Notes: Brajuka won the Junior Medal of Achievement and Senior Medal of Achievement his final two years, and was a four-year honor roll student. He swam with the Etobicoke Swim Club for 11 years and participated in the 2019 Canadian Trials Qualifier.
Garrett Burk
- Hometown: Wilmington, Delaware
- High School: Mount Pleasant
- Event: Backstroke
- Major: Environmental Science
- Notes: Burk first made All-State as a sophomore, checking in with the second team. As a junior, he was elevated to First Team All-State. In his final year, he repeated that feat, additionally breaking his high school's 200 IM record and placing second in the 100 Back at the Delaware State Championships.
Trenton Burr
- Hometown: Smithtown, New York
- High School: Hauppauge
- Event: Backstroke, Butterfly
- Major: Finance
- Notes: As a junior, Burr placed third in the 100 Back at the NYS Federation Championships. He was named to the All-County, All-State and All-Long Island teams, in addition to being named team captain and MVP. The following year, he made those teams again, along with becoming an All-American, repeated as team captain and MVP, and won the 100 backstroke at the NYS Federation Championships.
Gabe Deiderick
- Hometown: Lebanon, Pennsylvania
- High School: Cedar Crest
- Event: Freestyle
- Major: Political Science
- Notes: Deriderick was a high school letterman all four years with the swimming team.
Cole Dyson
- Hometown: Vienna, Virginia
- High School: James Madison
- Event: Freestyle
- Major: Biology
- Notes: Dyson made First Team All-District, First Team All-Region and First Team All-State all four years of his high school career. He was named to the All-Madison team (top 10 best student-athletes at his high school) in his senior year. In that same year, he was part of the All-American relay team in the 400 Free and recorded personal-best finishes in the 200 Free and 500 Free at the 2019 Virginia Class 6 State Meet, placing sixth in both events.
Alec Fatta
- Hometown: Wrightsville, Pennsylvania
- High School: Hempfield
- Event: Butterfly
- Major: Biology
- Notes: Fatta was part of the York YMCA. He chose La Salle for the close team and coaching staff, deciding on the Blue & Gold over Towson.
Sam Henninger
- Hometown: Glenside, Pennsylvania
- High School: Abington Senior
- Event: Diving
- Major: Nursing
- Notes: Henninger is a four-time conference champion and record holder, along with being a three-time All-American. Some of his accolades include a second-place finish at the PIAA AAA Diving State Championship his junior year, and a second place finish at the PIAA AAA District Meet his sophomore and senior years. Henninger holds school records in the 6 and 11 dive.
Jake Kramer
- Hometown: Harleysville, Pennsylvania
- High School: Souderton
- Event: Freestyle
- Major: Accounting
- Notes: Kramer has picked up a number of academic accolades, highlighted by winning Most Outstanding Student in Business his senior year. He is a member of the North Penn Aquatic Club.
Alex Kuriawa
- Hometown: Severna Park, Maryland
- High School: Severna park
- Event: Backstroke
- Major: Criminal Justice
- Notes: Kuriawa chose La Salle for the wonderful team, coaching staff and campus and made his decision over Towson and Salisbury.
Jason Rosales
- Hometown: Swanzey, New Hampshire
- High School: Monadnock Regional
- Event: Breaststroke
- Major: Biology
- Notes: Rosales was a four-year varsity letterman at Monadnock Regional. His family is from Venezuela and he speaks English and Spanish fluently.
Erik Williams
- Hometown: Glenside, Pennsylvania
- High School: Cheltenham
- Event: Freestyle, Backstroke
- Major: Biology
- Notes: Williams won the Scholar Athlete award as a senior and was an honor roll student at Cheltenham. He chose La Salle for the great coaching staff and academic program, and is aiming for all personal-best records his rookie year.
