Lock Haven Denies Field Hockey in Defensive Struggle, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA - A goal from Lock Haven's Tia Judy off a penalty corner shortly after halftime proved to be the difference in a tough 1-0 defeat for the La Salle University field hockey team on Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The loss was the first for the Explorers in Atlantic 10 play (5-6, 2-1 A-10) and also their first home loss of the season (3-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams not only went scoreless in the first quarter but neither team registered a shot over the first 15 minutes.
  • In the second, La Salle began to gain traction offensively and held possession for a good portion of the period.
  • Freshman Casey Reilly had the best opportunity of the contest for the home side, as her shot that appeared destined for the top portion of the cage was stopped by LHU goalkeeper Joaquina Orlandini in the 24th minute.
  • Reilly and fellow frosh Natalie Biliunas had chances later in the quarter but could not break the scoreless deadlock.
  • Following intermission, a defensive miscue by the Explorers allowed Lock Haven a penalty corner and they took full advantage in the 34th minute.
  • After a scrum in front of net, Judy converted to provide the lone score of the contest.
  • The Bald Eagles clamped down defensively after the goal, allowing the Explorers just two attempts and none during the final quarter.
  • For the game, Lock Haven held a 7-5 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Reilly closed with a team-high two shots for La Salle.
