PHILADELPHIA – After three-straight wins and its best start since 2006-07, the La Salle women's basketball team (4-1) looks to make it four in a row on Tuesday as it hosts Coppin State (0-5) at 7 p.m. inside Tom Gola Arena.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is coming off a close 55-52 victory on Friday at Norfolk State. In the game, freshman Jordon Lewis led the squad with a career high 18 points. The rookie shot 50% (4-of-8) from the floor, including 2-of-3 from long range and a perfect 8-of-8 from the stripe. Senior Shalina Miller also had a career game as she corralled 16 rebounds.
- The win over Norfolk State pushed the Explorers' win streak to three, which is the best since the beginning of the 2017-18 season. It also marked the team's best start since 2006-07 when the team started 5-0.
- La Salle has three players around or above double-digit scoring totals, led by freshman Claire Jacobs with 12.4 ppg. The Perth, Australia native is hitting 44.2% of her shots and 50.0% from downtown. She's recorded 15+ points in three of her five games played this season.
- Sophomore Kayla Spruill is the next leading scorer with 11.0 points per outing. Spruill is second on the team with 5.8 rpg.
- Freshman Jordon Lewis is nearing a double-digit point average with 9.0 ppg. The rookie has started all five games on the year and ranks third on the team with 5.6 rpg.
- Senior Shalina Miller has a team best 8.8 boards per game and leads the team with 12 blocks. Miller set the single season program record last year with 64 blocks and is 26 shy of tying the all-time record set by Amy Griffin '18 at 151.
- La Salle is averaging 69.0 ppg, which is 4.8 more than its opponents. The Blue & Gold are also out rebounding its foes with 45 rpg and a +4.0 margin.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
- Coppin State is 0-5 on the season and is in the middle of a six-game road swing.
- The Eagles are scoring just 46.4 ppg with a -34.0 margin and a 29.2% field goal percentage.
- Defensively, the Eagles are allowing opponents to average 80.4 points and shoot 45.3% from the floor and 38.6% from three-point range.
- Senior Chance Graham is leading Coppin in both scoring (14.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 ppg). She's shooting 26.9% from the floor.
THE SERIES:
- La Salle holds the all-time series record at 1-0.
- The teams' only matchup was played in 2003 when the Explorers topped the Eagles, 71-57.
