ESTERO, Fla. - The La Salle University men's basketball team continues play at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Tuesday evening as it takes on Wright State in a winner's bracket game at Hertz Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
NEWS & NOTES
- The Explorers advanced to the winner's bracket semifinals with a 75-64 win over Murray State on Monday evening.Â
- Freshman Sherif Kenney led five La Salle players in double figures with 15 points, including a 4-of-7 performance from three-point range.
- Long-distance shooting was a key in the game, as the Explorers connected on 13 of their 28 attempts from three while the Racers went 4-for-20.
- The Explorers entered the Gulf Coast Showcase ranked 18th in the country in three-point field goal defense and lowered that percentage to 23.9 with the performance against Murray State.
- Sophomore Ed Croswell notched his first double-double this season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, including a big bucket down the stretch that helped seal the victory.
- Seniors Isiah Deas and Saul Phiri combined for 23 points and shot 5-for-8 from three-point range in the win.
- Balance has been a key this season for the Explorers, with six players averaging between 8.3 and 9.8 points per game.
SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE
- The Raiders enter Tuesday's game with a 5-1 record, having defeated Weber State, 72-57, on day one of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
- Bill Wampler scored a team-high 27 points while Loudon Love had 17 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
- Wright State is averaging 83.3 points per game and is shooting 47.7 percent from the field through six games.
- Wampler and Love are the top two scorers for the season, averaging 15.7 and 15.0 points per game, respectively.
