NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - La Salle sophomore
Ibrahim Kedir started off the 2019-20 track & field season with Atlantic 10 Men's Track Performer of the Week honors, the league office announced late Tuesday.
Kedir began his track season at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday. He ran the 5,000 meters in a personal-record of 14:17.92 to finish 26th out of 87 finishers and was 13th among NCAA Division I runners. The mark was an IC4A qualifying time and the fastest 5K mark in the A-10 so far this season, nearly 30 seconds faster than the next best.
This comes only a month after Kedir competed at the NCAA Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional and helped the Explorers win the Atlantic 10 cross country title in early November. The race at BU was the first collegiate indoor meet of Kedir's career after he redshirted the 2018-19 indoor season. He has already earned all-conference honors in cross country twice, and last year he was the A-10 Cross Country Most Outstanding Rookie Performer and a member of the A-10 Outdoor Track & Field All-Rookie Team during his freshman year.
The Explorers will dive into the 2020 schedule on Friday, Jan. 10, at Fordham's Robert Elkin Invitational.
