ST. LOUIS – Senior
Jeryn Reese scored a team high 17 points as the La Salle women's basketball team (4-21, 1-10 A-10) couldn't sustain a fourth quarter comeback against Saint Louis (11-13, 6-5 A-10) on Sunday afternoon. The Billikens topped the Explorers, 69-58.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The home squad jumped out to an 8-4 lead before the media timeout at 4:30. La Salle ended the frame by outscoring Saint Louis, 7-3, to tie the game at 11.
- Saint Louis held a slim advantage in the second stanza, outscoring the Explorers, 16-11, for a 27-22 lead.
- SLU opened the third period with a one-point benefit, 9-8, through the first 5:03. The Billikens finished the quarter by outscoring the Explorers, 15-13, for a 51-43 lead.
- La Salle started to cut the deficit in the opening 5:26 of the period as it outscored SLU, 7-4. Saint Louis buckled down, with a 14-8 spurt to finish the frame. Eight of the Billikens final 14 points came from the charity stripe in the final 40 seconds of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Reese neared a double-double as she added nine rebounds to her stat line.
- Three others neared the double-digit point plateau as junior Sofilia Ngwafang added nine points and freshmen Janay Sanders and Kayla Spruill dropped eight apiece.
- Collectively the team shot 38.6% (22-of-57) from the floor.
