GENEVA, Ohio – Freshman
Zachary Wolbert capped his fantastic debut campaign by winning Most Outstanding Rookie Performer at the A-10 Championships. The East Stroudsburg native came away with a total of five medals (two individual, three team) and two broken records (both individual marks).
Wolbert's first medal came on the opening day of the Championships when he finished third as part of La Salle's 800 Free Relay team. On the third day he snatched silver in the 400 IM, shattering a school record that dated back to 1986, while also collecting bronze with the 400 Medley Relay team. Wolbert, however, saved the best for last on a final day that proved golden. He swam the 200 Fly in 1:46.86—almost two seconds better than another La Salle mark set in the late 80's—claiming first place in the event and setting a conference record in the process. He then teamed up for the 400 Free Relay and finished third.
For Wolbert, it's his third honor from the A-10 to date and marks the culmination of a strong first season. He was named A-10 Rookie of the Week back in October and then Performer of the Week in late January.
