PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's basketball team hosts Davidson on Fan Appreciation Night at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center Wednesday. NEWS & NOTES
•La Salle is looking to snap its recent three-game skid in its penultimate home game of the regular season.
•This past Saturday, the Explorers dropped an 84-75 decision to Richmond in a game that saw the Spiders shoot 66.7 percent from the field.
•Graduate student
Pookie Powell tied for game-high honors with 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and knocked down four three-pointers for the second straight game.
•La Salle dominated the rebounding battle by a 35-24 margin, including a 13-0 edge in offensive rebounds that led to a 10-0 advantage in second-chance points.
•Freshman
Ed Croswell led the Explorers with nine rebounds and is averaging 10.9 boards over his last eight games.
•Junior
Isiah Deas added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, marking the 17th game in which Deas has scored 10 or more points.
•The Spiders shot a blistering 75.0 percent on two-point field goal attempts against the Explorers, with Nathan Cayo going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.
•La Salle hit 11 three-pointers vs. Richmond, the 10th game of the year that the Explorers have made 10 or more threes.
•During Atlantic 10 play, the Explorers have connected on 129 three-pointers compared to just 82 for their opponents.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
•The Wildcats are 20-7 overall and stand in second place of the Atlantic 10 with an 11-3 record, one game behind VCU.
•Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Kellan Grady are the top scoring backcourt in the league, averaging a combined 33.3 points per contest.
•Gudmundsson is also tied for fifth in the conference in rebounding at 7.0 per game and fifth in assists per game at 4.7.
•Freshman Luke Frampton ranks first in three-pointers made per game at 3.1 and is third in three-point field goal percentage (39.4%).
•Davidson is the top three-point shooting team in the league both overall (35.4%) and in Atlantic 10 play (37.1%).
DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME
•With just four games remaining in Atlantic 10 regular-season play, the league's 14 teams are jockeying for positioning heading into the conference tournament on March 13-17 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
•The Explorers are tied for eighth place with Richmond at 6-8, having split the season series with the Spiders.
•VCU is atop the league standings at 12-2, one game in front of Davidson (11-3) and two in front of Dayton (10-4).
•The top four teams in the standings following the regular season with receive a double-bye into the quarterfinal round which will be played on Friday.
•The bottom four teams will play on Wednesday afternoon, and be forced to win five games in five days in order to earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
