PHILADELPHIA – After picking up its first conference win, the La Salle women's basketball team (4-20, 1-9 A-10) will travel to Saint Louis (10-13, 5-5 A-10) for a Sunday afternoon game. Tip is slated from 3 p.m. EST and the game will air on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle won its most recent game against Rhode Island, 77-71, after dropping its previous 11 contests. In the game, the Explorers scored a season high 77 points with the help of career highs from sophomore Michelle Nicholls (23) and junior Sofilia Ngwafang (18). The win marked the first Atlantic 10 win of the season and the first of head coach Mountain MacGillivray's career.
- Over the last eight games, the Explorers are shooting 42.2% from the field and 36.4% from long range. Both are far better than the season averages of 33.9% FG and 25.6 3FG.
- At least one Explorer has scored a career high in points in 11 of the last 16 games.
- The Explorers are first in the A-10 in both steals (222) and steals per game (9.3). The 222 steals have La Salle ranked 37th nationally.
- Sophomore Rayshel Brown is the team's active leading scorer with 8.3 points per game. Senior Jeryn Reese (7.8 ppg), Nicholls (7.7 ppg), and junior Shalina Miller (7.5 ppg) are the next top scorers.
- On the glass, Miller (6.3 rpg) and Reese (6.2 rpg) are topping the team in rebounds.
- Miller is fourth in program history in blocks with 92 and is currently second in the conference in blocks (43) and third in blocks per game (1.8). Her 43 deflections also have Miller ranked 36th in the nation.
- Brown scored 10+ points in her fifth consecutive game played after dropping 10 against the Spiders.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS:
- Saint Louis enters play at 10-13 overall and 5-5 in the conference. The Billikens are coming off of a loss at Fordham, 54-51.
- Ciaja Harbison is pacing the team in points, assists, steals, and field goal percentage. The rookie averages 15.3 ppg, 4.4 apg, 1.3 spg, and 44.1% from the floor. She ranks third in the conference in scoring, second in assists, and eighth in field goal percentage. Harbison has scored in double-digit point totals in 20 of 23 games this season.
- Harbison is joined in double figures by Jordyn Frantz. Frantz is averaging 13.2 points per outing, shooting 36.6% from the floor and 34.4% from long range.
THE SERIES:
- A rivalry reaching its 13th year, the Explorers and Billikens first started going head to head when Saint Louis joined the Atlantic 10 during the 2005-06 season.
- Since then, the all-time series is tied at 7-7, with the Explorers taking last year's lone matchup.
- However, the Billikens have won three of the last four meetings.
- In last season's game, La Salle beat Saint Louis 87-76 inside Tom Gola Arena.
- The Explorers last win in Missouri came back on Jan. 7, 2012, when La Salle took down Saint Louis, 53-52.
