Baseball Begins Atlantic 10 Play at Davidson this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off back-to-back wins, the La Salle University baseball team will begin its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule this weekend down in North Carolina at Davidson. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ ($).
 
SERIES INFO – La Salle (12-8, 0-0 A-10) at Davidson (10-6, 0-0 A-10) BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR THE EXPLORERS
  • La Salle picked up two wins this week, holding off Delaware on the road, 4-2 on Tuesday, and then going off for 19 runs in a 19-9 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday.
  • Senior Ben Faso was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and a home run to guide the Explorers past Delaware. Sophomore Mike Jenkins threw 5.2 shutout innings and senior Connor Hinchliffe converted his eighth save.
  • Freshman Tatem Levins scored five runs and drove in five more as La Salle went off for 19 runs on 16 hits against Fairleigh Dickinson. Levins, Faso and freshmen Quentin Brown and Ross Mulhall all went yard for the Explorers. Freshman Nick O'Day scored three times and drove in a pair, while senior Peyton Sorrels scored three runs and freshman Nick Di Vietro had two RBIs.
STAT STUFFERS
  • After Tuesday's save, Connor Hinchliffe is now by himself as the NCAA leader with eight saves. He is already seventh in school history in single season saves and only one away from being tied for fourth.
  • Ben Faso ranks 19th in the nation in RBIs with 27 to his credit.
  • La Salle's pitching staff is 26th nationally with just 3.12 walks allowed per nine innings.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
  • The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 10-6 record and are 9-2 at home.
  • Davidson has won four straight games after sweeping North Alabama in three games and downing Presbyterian, 4-1 on Tuesday.
  • Eric Jones leads the team with a .361 batting average and 15 runs scored. Alex Mardiney is batting .308 and Matt Frey hits .294, while Ruben Fontes has hit five homers to go with 15 RBIs.
  • Game one projected starter Casey Sutherland is 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA. Game two projected starter Allen Barry is 3-1 with a 5.51 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Game three projected starter Josh Hudson leads the team with a 1.17 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
