DAVIDSON, N.C. - The La Salle University baseball team dropped its Atlantic 10 Conference opener on the road Friday evening, 11-3 at Davidson.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Davidson scored the game's first run in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly to go up 1-0 early on.
• La Salle went ahead in the second inning, as freshman Nick O'Day drove home senior Kevin McGowan and freshman Tatem Levins on a two-run single to put the Explorers up by a run, 2-1.
• The Wildcats answered right back in the bottom of the second, however, scoring three runs to surge in front, 4-2. Davidson added to its lead in the fourth with two more runs and then made it a 7-2 advantage after a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
• Sophomore Tommy Toal brought the Explorers within four in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to left center to score classmate Jack Cucinotta.
• But Davidson poured in four more runs in the bottom of the seventh and ran away with their first A-10 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• O'Day led the Explorers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. McGowan also went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
• Junior Matt Holt started on the hill and struck out three while allowing six runs over 3.2 innings. Fellow junior Niko Jenkins had two strikeouts over an inning of relief.
