STATEN ISLAND – Women's water polo continues MAAC play this weekend with three games in Staten Island. Two will be played on Saturday with the first against Siena at 9 a.m. and, later, an afternoon matchup vs. hosts Wagner at 4:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, La Salle will face off against Villanova at noon.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- La Salle is back in action for the first time since March 10th. Previously, they had begun conference play with a 1-3 record in Lexington, Virginia and will look to build off of their victory vs. St. Francis Brooklyn.
- In that game against the Terriers, sophomore Karle Linden and junior Katelynn Kubo paced the Explorers with a hattrick each. Sophomore Jillian Delisle was the creative force, assisting six and scoring once.
- Sophomore Sarah DeFusco led the team over the whole weekend with 13 goals. She also added four assists, seven steals and four exclusions earned.
- La Salle is 2-0 in New York this season, winning games against Mercyhurst and St. Francis Brooklyn in Poughkeepsie on February 23rd.
SCOUTING SIENA
- The Saints are 7-11 this season and 0-3 in conference play. They most recently pipped La Salle at the Bison Invitational on February 9th.
- Siena is led by junior Diana Fernandez, who has tallied 60 points this season (36 goals, 24 assists.) She is followed by freshman Georgia Vargas with 34 goals and seven assists.
- In goal, senior Nichol Feldtz has played the most minutes with a 3-8 record. In 11 games played, she has 72 saves on 173 shots.
SCOUTING WAGNER
- The Seahawks are ranked 15th in the nation with a 17-7 record this season. They are 2-0 in conference play, outscoring their MAAC rivals 45-9.
- Wagner has three players who have broken the 90-point threshold. Senior Erica Hardy leads the team with 101 points (58 goals, 43 assists); after her, freshman Sofia Diaz Alvarez (65 goals, 27 assists) and redshirt junior Kristy Donkin (33 goals, 59 assists) are level on 92 points each.
- Sophomore Katherine Campbell has played 563 of a possible 614 minutes in net. She has an 11-6 record and a 43.8% save percentage.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
- The Wildcats have begun the season hovering around .500 with an 8-9 record. Notably, they're a perfect 3-0 in MAAC play thus far.
- Over those three games, senior Kate Stenmoen led the way for Villanova with 14 points (11 goals, three assists). She was joined in double-digit production by sophomores Kate Murray on 13 points (seven goals, six assists) and Malia Gacutan with 11 points (two goals, nine assists.)
- Freshman Gaby Palmisano spent the most time in net for the Wildcats. In the three wins, she recorded 14 saves on 29 shots for a save percentage of 48.3%.
