Baseball | March 25, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University baseball team will return home to host a pair of familiar foes this week from Hank DeVincent Field. La Salle will welcome Rider in the Liberty Bell Classic on Tuesday before hosting Delaware State on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is 3 p.m.

JENKINS BECOMES FOURTH BIG 5 PITCHER OF THE WEEK
  • Sophomore right-hander Mike Jenkins was named Big 5 Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
  • Jenkins allowed only four hits over 5.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks allowed in a 4-2 win at Delaware on Tuesday.
  • He joins Matt Holt, Jackson Ray and Aidan Frye as recipients of the award this season.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK
  • The Explorers started the week strong with back-to-back wins over Delaware and Fairleigh Dickinson before facing a tough challenge in a three-game series at Davidson.
  • Jenkins anchored La Salle to victory at Delaware on Tuesday by only giving up four singles in his start, while senior Ben Faso went 4-for-4 with a home run.
  • The Explorers then went off for 19 runs on 16 hits in Wednesday's 19-9 home victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.
  • La Salle opened Atlantic 10 Conference play this past weekend at Davidson and dropped all three games, 11-3, 6-0, and 16-8. Senior Peyton Sorrels was 6-for-14 at the plate in the series.
SCOUTING RIDER
  • The Broncs come into the week with a 7-14 record overall but just 2-10 on the road.
  • Rider has lost two in a row after losing its opening MAAC series to Niagara, two games to one.
  • La Salle and Rider met in a three-game series earlier this year, with the Explorers taking game one, 7-5, and game two, 3-0, before the Broncs edged out game three, 7-6.
  • Riley Mihalik powers the offense, hitting .342 with six homers, 18 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Chris Roan and Mike Ionta are both batting over .300 as well.
  • Colin Eiser is Rider's projected starter for Tuesday. He has a 2.84 ERA with seven strikeouts over 12.2 innings.
SCOUTING DELAWARE STATE
  • The Hornets enter the week at 6-14 overall and 3-9 in road games.
  • Delaware State has also lost two in a row, winning the opening game against Coppin State, 5-1, before dropping game two, 12-11, and the finale, 10-5.
  • La Salle visited DSU earlier this month, as the Explorers held on for a 7-4 win behind a three RBI day from Ben Faso.
  • Miguel Rivera has been impressive at the dish for the Hornets, hitting .381 over 13 games with five stolen bases. However, as a team, DSU is hitting just .217 with 3.55 runs per game. On the mound, the Hornets have an ERA of 6.53.
