Baseball Returns to A-10 Action this Weekend at St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA – Fresh off a lopsided victory on Wednesday, the La Salle University baseball team will return to Atlantic 10 Conference action this weekend with a trip to St. Bonaventure for a three-game series.
 
SERIES INFO – La Salle (13-12, 0-3 A-10) at St. Bonaventure (3-11, 1-2 A-10) BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN
  • The Explorers snapped a four-game skid with a 12-2 victory over Delaware State on Wednesday. Junior Ryan Guckin homered twice and drove in five runs as La Salle piled up 16 hits. Sophomore Mike Jenkins won his third straight game on the mound, allowing just one run over five innings.
  • On Tuesday, La Salle dropped a tough 12-11 decision to Rider despite overcoming an 8-0 deficit to take the lead late.
  • Sophomore Tommy Toal registered three hits in each game, while classmate Jack Cucinotta went 4-for-6 with four runs and two RBIs over the two games.
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Senior Ben Faso recorded his 100th career RBI in Wednesday's victory. He is already up to 31 this season, just five away from his total last year, which ranks 22nd in the nation. Faso also has 36 career doubles, just two shy of the program's top-10 list.
  • Mike Jenkins was named Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week on Monday. After Wednesday's win, he is now 3-0 with a 2.87 ERA over his three appearances this season.
  • Three Explorers are hitting over .300 so far in Kevin McGowan (.352), Peyton Sorrels (.337) and Ryan Guckin (.333), while Tommy Toal (.299) and Nick O'Day (.296) are both right in the mix as well.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
  • The Bonnies enter the weekend at 3-11 overall, 1-2 in the A-10 and 1-0 at home. They have won two of their last four games after previously going on an eight-game losing skid.
  • In it's a-10 opening series, St. Bonaventure dropped the first two games by a combined total of 16-3, but bounced back with a 1-0 shutout in the finale.
  • Alex Schutz leads the team with a slash line of .340/.400/.620. Tyler Kelder (.328 AVG) is the team leader in home runs (3) and RBI (12), while Brandon Kershaw is also hitting .300 on the year.
  • Game one starter Braydon Nelson carries a 5.40 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 23.1 innings, while game two starter Tyler Germanowski has 22 strikeouts but has struggled to the tune of a 9.87 ERA.
