Women's Basketball Falls to No. 4 Dayton in Atlantic 10 Tournament First Round

DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Jeryn Reese recorded a double-double in her final game as an Explorer, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the La Salle University women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 65-38 loss to No. 4 Dayton in the opening round of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Flyers opened the contest with eight of the first 10 points, La Salle played the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic 10 even for the remainder of the first quarter.
  • Senior Jeryn Reese connected on a three-pointer and junior Shalina Miller connected on a hook in the lane as the Explorers entered the second period trailing by just five at 12-7.
  • Dayton began the quarter with a 13-2 run and opened up a 16-point lead following a driving layup from Julia Chandler midway through.
  • A three-point play by Reese, who finished with a team-high six points in the first half, closed the scoring prior to halftime as La Salle entered the locker room with a 30-16 deficit.
  • The third quarter was evenly played, with Dayton holding a 16-15 edge over the 10-minute period.
  • La Salle continued to fight into the fourth quarter, pulling to within 47-35 after a layup from Miller with eight minutes remaining.
  • A near steal at midcourt had the potential to bring the Explorers even closer, but the Flyers regained possession and Lauren Cannatelli drained a three-pointer on the unsettled play to begin a game-ending 18-3 run.
