Joyce Powers Softball to Doubleheader Split at Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Freshman Cailey Joyce took control of game one of the Saturday twin bill at George Mason (19-23, 7-10 A-10) to lift the La Salle softball team (10-27, 3-12 A-10) to a 1-0 victory before the Explorers fell in game two, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Joyce proved to be the only run that would cross the plate in the first game with a solo shot to left center in the second inning.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Joyce (7-11) proved her ability as a dual threat as she commanded the game in the circle for La Salle. The rookie tossed a complete game shutout with five strike outs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: MASON 3, La SALLE 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Patriots registered two runs in the third on three hits to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Mason added one more in the fifth on one hit and one error.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore Morgan Orlowski (3-14) gave up two earned runs on six hits and a walk in 4.1 innings of work.
  • Joyce entered in relief for 1.2 innings and allowed one hit and one walk.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: UP NEXT:
La Salle returns to Philadelphia to host crosstown rival Saint Joseph's in an A-10 doubleheader on Wednesday at West Campus Field. Both games will stream on ESPN+ with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.
