PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (10-29, 3-14 A-10) couldn't get past Atlantic 10 foe, Saint Joseph's (23-19, 11-6 A-10), on Wednesday as it fell 8-2 and 3-2.
SJU 8, La SALLE 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring one in the first and two in the second.
- La Salle got on the scoreboard with a run in the second inning when junior Courtney Shupp notched an RBI single to right field to plate freshman Mackenzie Vogler.
- Saint Joseph's scored five unanswered runs to push its lead to 8-1 before the Explorers plated one in the final frame.
- Rookie Audrey LaBouliere recorded an infield single that scored senior Jeryn Reese from third.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Freshman Cailey Joyce (7-13) tossed the complete game and allowed six earned runs on seven hits and five walks. She struck out two in game one.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Five different Explorers went 1-for-3 on the day.
- Shupp and LaBouliere each registered an RBI.
SJU 3, La SALLE 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Game two was much closer that the opener. SJU took a 2-0 lead in the first before adding one in the fifth.
- Hawks' pitcher Amanda Herr was tossing a no-hitter into the sixth inning when junior Emily Conaway touched em all with a shot to center field.
- Conaway came to bat again in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch to push across the second run with two away in the frame, however the home team couldn't force extras.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- After giving up three hits in the opening frame, Joyce (7-14) retired the next 12 batters. Joyce allowed three hits in the fifth as the Hawks added a third run. She pitched the final two frames just one over the minimum. In total, allowed six hits and a walk for three earned runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Conaway fished 1-for three with the solo homer, a run scored, and two RBIs.
- Three other Explores each tallied a hit in three trips.

La Salle heads on the road for a three game conference series at Rhode Island. A twin bill is scheduled for Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
