Women's Water Polo | April 26, 2019
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Friday night at Marist College, the MAAC announced award winners and conference teams. Multiple Explorers earned honors, headlined by
Tom Hyham as MAAC Coach of the Year and sophomore
Sarah DeFusco listed on Second Team All-Conference.
In his first season at the helm, Hyham steered La Salle to a 10-win season, claiming five victories in conference play. Over the course of 2019, the Explorers tallied their first D-1 win, first conference victory and first triumph at Kirk Pool ever. Hyham inspired improvements across the pool as the team recorded the most goals scored and least goals allowed per game in program history.
DeFusco, a transfer from the University of the Pacific, had the most prolific offensive season in water polo's three-year existence. Notably, she set school records for goals (92) and points (125) in a single campaign, while tying a program-best in steals with 38.
Additionally, seven Explorers made the All-Academic team: juniors
Ann Cho,
Kacie Cios,
Jenny Fermaintt and
Katelynn Kubo, along with sophomores
Jillian Delisle,
Karle Linden and
Madison Martinez. Student-athletes must be academic sophomores or above and hold a minimum 3.2 GPA to qualify.
