PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University baseball team will look to get back on track on Wednesday when the Explorers host Maryland Eastern Shore for a 3 p.m. first pitch from Hank DeVincent Field.

LAST TIME OUT
  • After entering the weekend on a two-game win streak, La Salle dropped all three games to red-hot VCU over the weekend.
  • In game one, senior Peyton Sorrels hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and freshman Aidan Frye allowed just one unearned run and three hits over 5.1 innings, but VCU scored in each of the final four frames to take it, 11-2.
  • Sorrels homered again in game two, but the Explorers fell behind by eight and their comeback attempt fell short, 9-6. The Rams' offense caught fire in the finale, culminating in a 28-4 final.
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Freshman Tatem Levins was recognized as the College Sports Madness Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after posting a .471/.500/1.118 slash line last week. Levins had a historic game in La Salle's 14-6 win at Lehigh last Tuesday, going deep three times.
  • Senior Peyton Sorrels, who had a hit in his first five at-bats in the win at Lehigh, batted .500 and scored in each of La Salle's four games last week. Sorrels will enter Wednesday's game on a six-game hitting streak.
  • Sophomore Tommy Toal has reached base in 19 consecutive games, dating back to March 12. Toal has started at shortstop in all 32 games and leads the team with a .432 on-base percentage.
SCOUTING MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
  • The Hawks sit at 9-26 overall and 3-9 in the MEAC while they are 3-11 on the road.
  • Eastern Shore lost its last two games to Coppin State but had a three-game win streak prior to that.
  • Dillon Oxyer leads the team with 17 runs scored and is hitting .264 with 11 RBIs. Carson Davis is hitting .302 with a .433 on-base percentage and Brian Cordell is batting .281, but the team is hitting just .230 as a whole.
  • Cameron Bratton is the Hawks' projected starter and has struggled with an 0-5 record and a 7.56 ERA. He will match up against La Salle projected starter Mike Jenkins, who is 3-0.
