NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – La Salle University junior Darian Alston of the men's track and field team was named Atlantic 10 Conference Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday following his performance at the Sam Howell Invitational.
 
The Explorers have now picked up weekly conference accolades in each of their first three weeks of outdoor action, as Alston joins Chris Lewis (3/26, 4/2) and Anthony Hawthorne (4/2) as weekly outdoor award recipients.
 
Alston captured the triple jump title at the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday with a leap of 14.99 meters (49'2.25"), defeating eight other individuals. He also placed seventh out of 14 entrants in the long jump with a mark of 6.62 meters (21'8.75") on his first attempt.
 
It's the third A-10 weekly award for Alston this year and his first during the outdoor season after taking the honor twice during the indoor campaign.
