Levins Hits Ninth Homer in Setback at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – Freshman Tatem Levins hit his ninth home run of the season, but the La Salle University baseball team dropped the opening game of its three-game series at Fordham on Friday, 11-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fordham quickly jumped out front in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and made it 2-0 after an error. The Rams added RBI singles in the second and third as well to surge ahead, 4-0.
  • The home team started to run away with it in the fifth after another sacrifice fly and a home run by Billy Godrick stretched the advantage to 7-0. Another error proved costly for La Salle in the sixth, as Fordham added three unearned runs.
  • The Rams then made it an 11-0 lead on an RBI single in the eighth frame.
  • Levins provided the lone bright spot for the Explorers, hitting a solo homer with one out in the ninth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Levins moved into a tie for 10th in single season program history with his ninth long ball of the year. The rookie is tied with four others, and one more homer would put him tied for sixth.
  • Freshman Chuck Kelley allowed one earned run with three strikeouts over three innings in relief of starter Colin Scanlon (4-4).
  • Senior Peyton Sorrels went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, his 23rd of the season. That puts him into sole possession of sixth on the program's single season steals list.
UP NEXT
  • Game two between La Salle and Fordham will be Saturday at 2 p.m.
