Baseball Concludes 2019 with Home Series against Rhode Island; Senior Day Set for Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University baseball team will conclude its 2019 season with a three-game home series against Rhode Island beginning Thursday from Hank DeVincent Field. On Saturday, the team will host Senior Day as well as Alumni Appreciation Day.
 
SERIES INFO – La Salle (24-29, 3-18 A-10) vs. Rhode Island (21-26, 12-8 A-10)
  • Game 1: Thursday – 3 p.m. – Hank DeVincent Field | ESPN+
  • Game 2: Friday – 1 p.m. – Hank Devincent Field | ESPN+
  • Game 3: Saturday – 12 p.m. – Hank DeVincent Field (Senior Day)
HONORING THE SENIORS ALUMNI CELEBRATION!
  • In addition to Senior Day, Saturday will also serve as Alumni Day. After the game, La Salle baseball alumni will join in a celebratory happy hour. Alums are encouraged to RSVP here.
  • La Salle Director of Athletics and Explorer baseball alumnus Bill Bradshaw will throw out the first pitch on Saturday as well.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Explorers dropped three games at Fordham this past weekend. After an 11-1 setback on Friday, La Salle fell in a doubleheader on Saturday, 5-0 and 7-2.
  • On Saturday, sophomore Colin Kennedy threw a career-high 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on four hits with six strikeouts in game one. The Explorers then rallied to tie the second game midway through before Fordham ran away with a 7-2 win.
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Senior Peyton Sorrels is now in the top 10 in program history in single season hits, runs, stolen bases and total bases as well as career triples. Sorrels is tied for fourth in single season hits (77), seven away from the school record of 84 set by Sam Boone in 1985. He is also fifth in single season runs (52), sixth in stolen bases (23), tied for ninth in total bases (108) and is tied for 10th in career triples (8).
  • Senior Ben Faso is top 10 in program history in single season RBI as well as career doubles, career RBI and career hits. Faso is fourth in single season RBI (56), nine away from the school record of 65 set by Steve O'Donnell in 1989. He is also seventh in both career RBI (126) and career doubles (43) and is ninth in career hits (205).
  • Senior Connor Hinchliffe is second in the program in single season saves (12), only one away from the school record of 13 set by Pat Christensen in 2011. Hinchliffe is also fifth in career saves (13) and tied for ninth in single season appearances (26).
  • Freshman Tatem Levins is eighth in school history with 49 RBIs this season. He is also 10th in both single season doubles (16) and single season home runs (9).
WHERE THEY STAND NATIONALLY
  • Connor Hinchliffe enters the series 12th in the nation with 12 saves and 54th with 26 appearances, both of which lead the Atlantic 10.
  • Peyton Sorrels begins the series 20th in the country with 77 hits and 24th with 1.54 hits per game. Sorrels is also 43rd in stolen bases (23) and 50th in triples (4), while he is fourth in the A-10 in both batting average (.368) and runs (52).
  • Ben Faso enters the final series 35th nationally with 56 RBIs.
  • As a team, La Salle heads into its last series 27th nationally in doubles (104), 48th in hits (508) and 49th in runs (348).
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
  • The Rams sit at 21-26 overall, 12-8 in the Atlantic 10 and 11-16 on the road.
  • Rhode Island will be fighting to secure one of seven spots in the Atlantic 10 Championship, beginning the series sixth in the league, just 0.5 games ahead of seventh place Saint Louis and 2.5 games ahead of Saint Joseph's, which is on the outside looking in.
  • The Rams have won three straight conference games after taking one from Saint Louis last weekend and two from Massachusetts this past weekend. They fell to Connecticut, 5-4, in non-conference play on Tuesday.
  • Austin White leads the team with a .329 batting average, 36 runs and 13 stolen bases. Xavier Vargas is tops on the squad with 34 RBIs and owns a .306 average.
  • Justin Cherry (3-1) leads the team on the mound with a 3.12 ERA and 50 strikeouts. Nick Robinson (2-6) has also made nine starts and has a 5.82 ERA to go with 45 strikeouts. Tyler Brosius (6-1) anchors the bullpen with a 2.08 ERA and six saves.
