PHILADELPHIA - Three members of the La Salle University track and field program have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, the NCAA announced Thursday. Junior
Anthony Hawthorne and sophomore
Dennis Manyeah will represent the men's team, while junior
Grace Mancini will represent the women's squad.
The NCAA East Preliminary will take place at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., May 23-25. The qualifiers out of the regionals will advance to the National Championships in Austin, Texas, June 5-8.
Hawthorne qualified in the 800-meter run for the second consecutive season after reaching the national semifinals in the event last year. He qualified this year by running the 800 in 1:49.46 at the Florida Relays back in March.
Mancini will also be making her second straight appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She secured a spot at regionals by breaking her own school record in the the steeplechase with a time of 10:07.47 at the Penn Relays.
Manyeah will make his first ever appearance at the regional championships in the high jump in just his first year with the Explorers. He earned his spot at regionals when he won the Atlantic 10 high jump title with a school-record leap of 2.14 meters (7'0.25").
