Baseball Takes Winning Streak into Home Series with Dayton

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off back-to-back wins, the La Salle University baseball team will wrap up its eight-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Dayton for a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series.
 
SERIES INFO – La Salle (24-23, 3-12 A-10) vs. Dayton (25-21-1, 12-6 A-10)

TWO MIDWEEK WINS
  • The Explorers won both of their midweek games, taking down UMBC on Tuesday, 9-5, and holding off LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday, 4-3.
  • Freshman Chuck Kelley had career highs in strikeouts (8) and innings pitched (5.0) and allowed just two runs to earn the win against UMBC. Senior Ben Faso went 4-for-5, while senior Peyton Sorrels and sophomore Jack Cucinotta each had two hits each.
  • On Wednesday, junior Jackson Ray scattered just one run on four hits over 6.2 innings to pick up the victory against LIU Brooklyn. Senior Connor Hinchliffe earned his 12th save and sophomore Jack Cucinotta hit an inside-the-park home run.
MILESTONES, MILESTONES, MILESTONES
  • Seniors Ben Faso, Peyton Sorrels and Connor Hinchliffe have etched their names in the school record book in recent weeks.
  • Faso became the eighth player in program history to record 50 RBIs in a season and currently ranks sixth on the single season RBI list with 52. He is also seventh in both career RBIs (122) and career doubles (42). Faso ranks 10th in team history with 198 career hits, just two away from the 200 mark.
  • Sorrels stole three bases in Tuesday's win as he became the ninth player in program history to reach 20 stolen bases in a season. He then became just the seventh player in team history to score 50 runs in a season on Wednesday. Sorrels is also 10th in both career triples (8) and single season hits (71), and he's only 13 hits away from the school record of 84 set by Sam Boone in 1985.
  • Hinchliffe has been making his way up the team's single season saves list, and with another save on Wednesday, he now sits second in school history with 12. He needs just one more save to reach Pat Christensen's mark of 13 set in 2011. Hinchliffe is also fifth in career saves with 13.
NEWS AND NOTES
  • La Salle's 24 wins this season are tied for the fourth most in program history, matching the 1988, 1989, 2013 and 2015 teams.
  • The Explorers are 16-9 at Hank DeVincent Field, their most home wins since the team joined the Atlantic 10 Conference in 1996.
  • La Salle ranks 22nd in the nation and second in the A-10 with 472 hits so far this season. The Explorers are also 25th nationally in doubles with 94.
  • Individually, Connor Hinchliffe is fifth in the country and first in the conference in saves with 12. Peyton Sorrels is 10th in the nation with 71 hits. Ben Faso is 25th nationally with 52 RBIs.
SCOUTING  DAYTON
  • The Flyers enter the weekend at 25-21-1 overall and 12-6 in the A-10.
  • Dayton is 11-12-1 on the road and is 3-2 in its last five games, taking a home series against Saint Joeseph's (2 games to 1), falling at Kent State, 9-6, and topping Bowling Green, 6-3.
  • Benjamin Blackwell leads the team in batting with a .307 clip, while Mitchell Garrity hits .287 with a team-high 42 runs and Connor echols bats .281 with 35 RBIs. Dayton is 12th in the nation with 97 stolen bases.
  • The Flyers have a team ERA of 5.01 and a WHIP of 1.44. Hunter Wolfe (3.95 ERA) leads the squad with a 7-4 record and 72 strikeouts.
