NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Recent La Salle University graduate and former volleyball player Madison Kuch was named one of 14 recipients of the Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship, the league announced on Thursday. The prestigious honor is given to a graduating student-athlete from each of the league's 14 members.
Each of the 14 honorees will receive $5,000 to contribute towards full-time enrollment in a postgraduate or professional program. Over the last six years, the A-10's Postgraduate Scholarship program has awarded $420,000 to 80 former student-athletes.
Kuch, who was a four-year member of the La Salle University volleyball program, has been a member of the Atlantic 10's Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of the past three years. As a junior and senior, she earned Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team accolades and graduated maxima cum laude (the highest graduation honor) from La Salle earlier in May. During her final semester at La Salle, the Integrated Business, Science and Technology major received a perfect 4.0 GPA.
On the volleyball court, Kuch had an outstanding senior season as she helped the Explorers to their first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance. The 6-2 outside hitter ranked second on the team in kills per set (2.88) and had 22 kills with a .512 hitting percentage in La Salle's 3-1 victory over Duquesne in the A-10 quarterfinals. Kuch is planning to enroll in the Master's of Healthcare Administration program at the University of South Carolina in the Fall of 2019.
"I want to congratulate this exceptional group of Postgraduate Scholarship recipients," stated Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "Each of these young women and men have demonstrated a talent for academics and leadership throughout their successful careers as student-athletes. We are proud to award them one of the Atlantic 10's most prestigious honors to assist with their postgraduate education."
The class is comprised of 12 female and two male student-athletes, representing seven different sports with an average GPA of 3.74. The process involves the league's athletic directors, senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives.
