PHILADELPHIA - Freshman
Hannah Yanovich and senior
Lauren Lechleitner each had a goal and an assist to lead the La Salle field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart at Hank DeVincent Field on Friday. Another freshman,
Noralie Pareau Dumont, was the third goal scorer for the Explorers, who opened the season with a victory for the second straight year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yanovich put La Salle in front early, as she converted on an opportunity from close range off a nice pass from Lechleitner in the fourth minute of action.
- The Explorers continued to put pressure on Sacred Heart over the first 10 minutes of the contest, with Lechleitner and fellow senior Amanda Chapin each registering attempts.
- In the 13th minute, the Pioneers nearly found the equalizer as a shot by Colleen McAninley hit the left post and caromed out of play.
- After regrouping between quarters, La Salle returned to form in the second and outshot Sacred Heart by a 5-1 margin.
- With time running down in the period, Pareau Dumont doubled the lead for the Explorers with a shot from distance off a penalty corner insert from Yanovich.
- The third quarter went scoreless and saw just one shot registered between both teams.Â
- Lechleitner, who had a strong match and finished with a team-high six shots, finally found the back of the cage in the 55th minute as she put home a feed from sophomore Regan Dougherty.
- Sophomore Cassie Kincaid saw the first action of her La Salle career and earned her first-career shutout, stopping a pair of shots by Sacred Heart.
