Field Hockey Drops Road Decision at Temple

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University field hockey team (1-1) suffered a 3-0 loss at Temple in a non-conference contest on Sunday. The Owls scored once in the first half and two more times in the second to improve to 2-0 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Temple got on the scoreboard early in the sixth minute as Dani Batze scored off a penalty corner to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
  • The score remained the same heading into halftime, with the Owls outshooting the Explorers by a 7-1 margin over the first 30 minutes.
  • La Salle came out aggressive after the break, and a yellow card on a Temple player less than three minutes into the third quarter gave the visitors an opportunity to tie the score.
  • Freshman Hannah Yanovich and senior Amanda Chapin each had attempts blocked in the 34th minute and two more shots - one from senior Lauren Lechleitner and another by freshman Noralie Pareau Dumont - were saved by Temple goalie Cristina Carotenuto a minute later.
  • Temple withstood the flurry of opportunities by the Explorers and eventually took a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute thanks to a goal by Natalie Burns.
  • The Owls added an insurance goal in the fourth quarter to secure their second win of the season's opening weekend.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle continues its three-match road swing on Friday, Sept. 6 with a match at Rider.
  • Opening pass is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
