PHILADELPHIA – After a thrilling 2-1 win over Iona in the season opener, the La Salle University men's soccer team will hit the road for the first time on Tuesday when the Explorers visit St. Francis Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
Starting Strong
- For the second straight season, the Explorers won their season opener.
- Redshirt freshman Colin Bateman scored his first collegiate goal and senior Pat McCarthy knocked in the game-winner to cap off a home win on Friday.
- The La Salle defense held Iona scoreless in the first half and sophomore Brett Werner finished the contest with five saves. Sophomore Charlie Collins and freshman Franc Gamiz Quer tallied assists in the win.
So We Meet Again
- After a 2-0 start last season, La Salle suffered its first loss to St. Francis Brooklyn, 2-0 at McCarthy Stadium.
- The Terriers scored in the 10th minute before taking a 2-0 lead in the first half and they never turned back.
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
- St. Francis Brookyln is also off to a 1-0 start after using a second-half goal to sneak past Stony Brook in its season opener.
- El Mahdi Youssoufi tallied the goal for the Terriers in the 69th minute. Goalie Callum James only needed to make two saves to secure the shutout.
- Mattero Caribotti, who scored in last season's meeting at La Salle, is back as the returning leading scorers from 2018. The Terriers finished 7-10 last year with four shutouts.
