Men’s Soccer Opens Atlantic 10 Slate at Fordham this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – A new season will begin for the La Salle men's soccer team this weekend as the Explorers begin Atlantic 10 Conference action at Fordham on Saturday at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

After starting 3-0 on their home turf, the Explorers dropped their first home game of the season on Tuesday to Lafayette, 3-0.
The contest was tight in the first half, and senior Pat McCarthy nearly tied the match at one apiece midway through the opening frame, but the Leopards tallied two late goals to seal the deal.
Sophomore Brett Werner matched his season high with seven saves, while McCarthy and sophomores Ike Hollinger and Nigel Buckley each put a shot on goal.

HOW WE GOT HERE

La Salle is off to a 3-3 start so far through six non-conference games, already matching its win total from all of last season.
The Explorers have earned home wins over Iona, Robert Morris and LIU. However, La Salle is still in search of its first road win of the year.
Nigel Buckley leads the team with five points, while he and Pat McCarthy both have two goals apiece to their credit. Meanwhile, Brett Werner owns a 1.67 goals against average and a .737 save percentage.

SCOUTING FORDHAM

The Rams enter the weekend 1-4-1 overall and are 1-1 at home.
Fordham is 0-3-1 on the road and earned a 5-0 home win over Holy Cross.
The two squads share a similar opponent in Rider, which earned 2-0 victories over both the Rams and Explorers.
On Tuesday, Fordham took No. 7 Clemson to overtime before falling, 3-2, in the 100th minute.
Joergen Oland leads the team with three goals, while Bart Dziedzic has five points and Luke McNamara has two goals. In goal, Konstantin Weis has a 1.39 goals against average and a .625 save percentage.
