Field Hockey's Hard-Fought Battle With Georgetown Ends in 2-1 Defeat

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman Casey Reilly scored her second goal of the season and the La Salle field hockey team held a dominant 10-4 advantage in penalty corners in its matchup with Georgetown on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Hoyas scored a pair of goals in the middle quarters to upend the Explorers, 2-1, in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle and Georgetown played a relatively even first 15 minutes, with the Explorers having a couple of chances early and late in the period.
  • Senior Chloe Lucky inserted a pair of penalty corners in the opening minutes but La Salle could not take advantage.
  • After the Hoyas controlled play for the next 10 minutes,.GU goalkeeper Ciara Weets made a stop on senior Lauren Lechleitner to deny the Explorers.
  • Freshman Samie Hackman had her opportunity just over two minutes later stopped by GU goalkeeper Ciara Weets.
  • Classmate Noralie Pareau Dumont took a shot off a penalty corner second later, but missed just wide.
  • Georgetown broke through early in the second quarter, as Michaela Bruno scored her second goal of the season to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead.
  • Freshman Chloe South denied a pair of shots by the Hoyas early in the third quarter, but the third attempt from Halle Gill pushed the home team in front by a 2-0 margin.
  • With time running down in the third, a penalty corner was awarded to the Explorers and they took advantage, as junior Rialee Allen set up Reilly to halve La Salle's deficit.
  • The fourth quarter saw the Explorers earn six penalty corners, including four in less than a minute.
  • Senior Amanda Chapin had La Salle's final shot on goal in the 56th minute but Weets was up to the task yet again to preserve the win for Georgetown.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Georgetown held a 10-6 advantage in shots, including a 6-1 edge in the second and third quarters combined.
  • South closed with five saves in goal for the Explorers, while Weets had three.
