Beau Bakker scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the La Salle University field hockey team (4-4, 1-0 Atlantic 10) to a resounding 3-0 win over Davidson in its league opener on Friday. Senior
Amanda Chapin also found the back of the cage and added an assist for the Explorers, who snapped a two-game losing skid.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- La Salle dominated the first period, outshooting the home team by a 7-1 margin, but could not find the back of the cage.
- The Explorers had four penalty corners through the first 4:11 of the game that resulted in five shots but no goals.
- Early in the second quarter, the visitors finally broke through as Bakker registered her first of the game off an assist by fellow freshman Hannah Yanovich.
- Through 30 minutes, La Salle held an 11-2 advantage in shots and had six penalty corners.
- An early green card on Davidson gave the Explorers an advantage in the third quarter and they made the Wildcats pay.
- Chapin scored her second goal of the season just two minutes into the period to double La Salle's lead to 2-0.
- The final goal of the game came just 40 seconds into the fourth quarter, when Bakker scored her second goal off a pass from Chapin following a penalty corner.
- From there, the Explorers cruised to victory and extended their winning streak against Davidson to four games.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- La Salle closed with a 13-3 shot advantage, including a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.
- The Explorers also had nine penalty corners, to just five for Davidson.
- Senior Emma Provost, making her first start of the season in goal, stopped one shot to pick up the shutout victory.
