Provost's Strong Effort Not Enough in 1-0 Loss at Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. - Senior goalkeeper Emma Provost registered seven saves, including six in the first half, but the La Salle University field hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss at Appalachain State in non-conference action on Sunday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams battled to a stalemate through the first 30 minutes of action, with Provost playing a key role in keeping the game scoreless.
  • Provost recorded three saves in each of the first two quarters as Appalachian State (7-3) held a 10-2 advantage in shots during the first half.
  • The third quarter saw Michelle Taylor score what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 38th minute off a pass by  Friederike Stegen.
  • In the fourth quarter, a yellow card on Appalachian State gave the Explorers a chance to tie the game but the Mountaineers held sturdy defensively.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers (4-5, 1-0 Atlantic 10) return to conference action on Friday, Oct. 4 to begin a three-game homestand at Hank DeVincent Field.
  • Opening pass against Saint Louis is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
