Men’s Soccer Continues Home Stretch Tuesday Against NJIT

PHILADELPHIA – On the heels of a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Duquesne, the La Salle University men's soccer team will continue its three-game homestand on Tuesday when the Explorers welcome NJIT to McCarthy Stadium for a 7 p.m. tilt.
 
GOLDEN GOAL
  • Sophomore Omari Cotterell scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Explorers to a 2-1 victory over six-win Duquesne on Saturday night in front of the home crowd.
  • Sophomore Nigel Buckley tallied the opening goal, his fourth of the year, on assists by freshman Isak Sedin and sophomore Ike Hollinger just 2:04 into action before the Dukes evened the score in the 19th minute.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Carlos Mora and the La Salle defense kept Duquesne quiet the rest of the way, and Cotterell delivered the golden goal in the 97th minute.
  • It was La Salle's first Atlantic 10 win of the season and fourth home victory. The Explorers (5-4-0) already have two more wins this year than all of last season. 
COTTERELL & MORA PILE UP WEEKLY HONORS
  • Omari Cotterell and Carlos Mora each earned weekly awards from both the Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Soccer Six following La Salle's 2-0 week.
  • Cotterell was named A-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Soccer Six Player of the Week. In addition to his game-winning goal on Saturday, Cotterell also assisted on the game-winner in Tuesday's 1-0 shutout at Howard.
  • Mora received Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week and A-10 Rookie of the Week honors. The goalkeeper logged a clean sheet in his collegiate debut Tuesday, anchoring the shutout of Howard. Mora then allowed just one goal over 97 minutes in Saturday's thrilling victory over Duquesne.
SCOUTING NJIT
  • The Highlanders enter the contest 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-1 on the road.
  • NJIT snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 shutout win over Liberty on Saturday. The Highlanders have already played two A-10 foes, tying Fordham, 2-2, and winning at VCU, 1-0.
  • Rene White has been a goal-scoring machine for NJIT, with seven goals and an assist to his credit already. Thomas Radon has also tallied four goals and an assist.
  • In goal, Samuel Reisgys owns a 1.26 goals against average and a .782 save percentage, while the Highlanders have recorded three shutouts.
