PITTSBURGH – Ten Explorers registered a point on Saturday as the La Salle women's basketball team (6-10, 0-3 A-10) fell on the road to Duquesne (11-5, 1-2 A-10), 82-56.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Duquesne opened the game with a pair of threes before the Explorers answered with a bucket from freshman Claire Jacobs. The Dukes held an 11-7 lead at the media stoppage with 4:29 left in the frame. The home squad pushed its lead to 22-16 at the end of the period with an 11-9 advantage.
- Through the first 5:50 of the second stanza, Duquesne held a slight 12-11 margin over the Explorers. Sophomore Kayla Spruill accounted for five of the team's 11 points with junior Kate Hill adding four and freshman Christina Kline recording two. The remainder of the period was mostly defensive, seeing a Dukes 4-2 advantage for a 38-29 lead.
- Duquesne jumped out of the gate with a 15-4 run over the first 4:55 to open a sizable lead at 20 points. The Dukes finished the quarter with a 17-7 spurt to claim a 30 point lead at 70-40.
- La Salle won the final frame, 16-12.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Spruill finished with a team high 12 points. She added five rebounds and an assist to her line.
- Freshman Jordon Lewis recorded 10 points and a team high nine rebounds. The rookie also deflected a career high two blocks.
- K. Hill continued her success at the point with eight assists and no turnovers.
