Women’s Basketball Takes on George Mason as Part of La Salle Basketball Doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's basketball (8-12, 2-5 A-10) will look to pick up its second-straight Atlantic 10 victory on Wednesday when it hosts George Mason (7-13, 1-6 A-10) inside Tom Gola Arena as part of a La Salle basketball doubleheader. The women's game will tip at 5 p.m. with the men following at 8 p.m. Both will air live on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle has won two of its last three games after defeating Saint Joseph's in a Big 5/A-10 showdown at Tom Gola Arena this past Sunday, 67-59.
  • In the win over the Hawks, sophomore Kayla Spruill scored a career high 24 points and corralled 12 boards for her second double-double of the season. Freshman Claire Jacobs added 21 points to become the first duo to score 20+ points in a game since Micahya Owens (23) and Alicia Cropper (20) against Saint Louis in the first round of the A-10 Championship Tournament in 2014.
  • Sophomore Kayla Spruill put together back-to-back performances against Richmond and Saint Joseph's to earn the nod as Big 5 Player of the Week. Spruill averaged 21 ppg and 10.5 rpg, while shooting 64.7% from the floor, 66.7% from long range, and a perfect 14-of-14 from the line.
  • Senior Shalina Miller broke the all-time blocks record against Richmond and followed that up with a six-block performance against the Hawks to tie her career best. Miller leads the Explorers with 46 blocks, 2.3 bpg, and 7.3 rpg. She ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in both categories and 20th in blocks and 26th in blocks per game nationally.
  • Freshman Claire Jacobs is La Salle's leading scorer with 12.5 points per game. Jacobs hits 35.6% of her shots, including 33.0% from three-point land.
  • Sophomore Kayla Spruill is second on the team with 10.7 ppg and 5.8 rpg. Big Smooth converts 37.1% of her shots. The Baltimore, Md. native has dropped 10+ points in eight straight games, including 15+ in the last three.
  • Freshmen Jordon Lewis (7.7 ppg) and Amy Jacobs (7.1 ppg) round out the top four scorers. The quartet is accounting for 60.3% of the Explorers points this season.
  • Junior Kate Hill is the team's leader in assists with 88 on the season and 4.4 per game. Not only does she pace the team, but the entire conference in assist to turnover ratio at 2.7 and assists.
  • La Salle is scoring 61.9 ppg and allowing opponents 67.8.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:
  • George Mason is 7-13 and 1-6 in league play under seventh year coach Nyla Milleson.
  • The Patriots are being outscored by their opponents this season 67.0-62.5.
  • Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Nicole Cardano-Hillary leads the team with 17.7 ppg on 36.6% shooting.
  • Camarie Gatling is the next highest scorer with 9.4 ppg.
  • Jacy Bolton added 8.9 ppg and paces the squad with 6.6 rpg.
THE SERIES:
  • La Salle holds the all-time record 6-5 after splitting the season series last year. The Explorers are 4-2 inside Tom Gola Arena against the Patriots.
  • La Salle concluded the 2018-29 regular season with a 77-71 overtime victory over Mason.
