PHILADELPHIA – After back-to-back victories, the La Salle women's basketball team (9-12, 3-5 A-10) travel to Fordham (12-8, 4-3 A-10) for a Saturday afternoon game. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. with the game airing live on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle has won three of its last four games dating back to a nationally televised bout with St. Bonaventure.
- In the win over George Mason, rookie Claire Jacobs tied her career high and La Salle freshman record of 29 points. Her twin, Amy Jacobs, added 14 points, while senior Shalina Miller was a monster defensively as she corralled 12 rebounds (10 defensive) and five blocks.
- Sophomore Kayla Spruill is the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week after performances against Richmond and Saint Joseph's. Spruill recorded 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, shooting 64.7% from the floor, 66.7% from long range, and a perfect 14-of-14 from the stripe.
- Senior Shalina Miller broke the program's all-time blocks record against Richmond and has averaged 5.5 deflections per game since. Miller tied her career mark with six against the Hawks and added five against Mason. She leads the team with 51 rejections, 2.4 bpg, and 7.5 rpg.
- Freshman Claire Jacobs leads the team with 13.3 points per game and is shooting 37.0% from the floor, including 34.0% from three-point land. In A-10 play, she's upped her average to 16.0 ppg.
- Sophomore Kayla Spruill is the team's second leading scorer and rebounder. Big Smooth averages 10.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg. The Baltimore, Md. native has dropped 10+ points in 12 games this season and 15+ in four.
- Freshmen Jordon Lewis (7.8 ppg) and Amy Jacobs (7.5 ppg) round out the top four scorers. The quartet is accounting for 61.2% of the Explorers scoring this season.
- Junior Kate Hill is the team's leader in assists with 88 on the season and 4.4 per game. Not only does she pace the team, but the entire conference in assist to turnover ratio at 2.7.
- La Salle is scoring 62.6 ppg and allowing its opponents 67.6.
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
- Fordham is 12-8 overall and 4-3 in league play under head coach Stephanie Gaitley.
- The Rams are scoring 61.8 ppg with 91.7% of their points coming from their starting five. Four are averaging 10.9 or more per game.
- Bre Cavanaugh leads the team with 19.0 ppg on 38.8% shooting. She's also second on the team with 6.2 rpg.
- Kendall Heremaia sits atop the roster in rebounds with 8.4 per outing.
THE SERIES:
- La Salle owns the overall record 34-15, dating back to 1984.
- The Rams, however, have been more successful as of late, claiming the last seven contests.
- La Salle's last win came on Feb. 1, 2012 with a score of 56-55 in the Bronx.
