PHILADELPHIA - The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report on Division I student-athletes was released on Tuesday. La Salle University had a school-record 13 teams register perfect scores of 100 and posted an overall departmental score of 97, tops among Atlantic 10 schools and tied for 19th among NCAA Division I institutions nationally.
"Our student-athletes pride themselves on being excellent in the classroom and strong ambassadors on campus," Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Baptiste said. "We are extremely proud to have the top NCAA Graduation Success Rate in the Atlantic 10 and one of the top 20 in the country. It is a true testament to the commitment of our student-athletes, as La Salle continues to be a leader in this critical area."
The 13 La Salle sport programs to score perfectly include men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, men's golf, men's crew, women's rowing, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, men's water polo, men's tennis, women's tennis, and women's volleyball. Since the GSR program began, La Salle has had 109 teams with a perfect score.
"Our historic focus on the delivery of high-impact teaching and learning is a proud tradition at La Salle, one that extends from our earliest days in 1863 through to today," said University President Dr. Colleen M. Hanycz. "The NCAA's latest Graduation Success Rate report demonstrates the commitment our educators and student-athletes place upon transformational academic experiences and proves that excellence must be measured both on the field of competition and in the classroom."
The GSR was developed in response to colleges and universities who asked for an alternative rate that more accurately reflects the movement among college student-athletes. The GSR takes into account transfers who graduate from a different institution than the one they started at and transfers who leave an institution in good standing.
