Jacobs Leads Women’s Basketball in Dominant Win at Coppin State, 75-49

BALTIMORE – Sophomore Claire Jacobs scored a season high 26 points Monday afternoon to lead the La Salle women's basketball team (3-3) to a dominate 75-49 win at Coppin State (0-2).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • La Salle claimed the first four points of the game before the Eagles scored the next five. The Blue & Gold took an 8-4 run over the following 1:45 to pull ahead 12-9 at the media stoppage with 4:38 left in the opening frame. The Explorers continued the momentum through the remainder of the period as they outpaced Coppin State 8-4 for a 20-13 lead.
  • La Salle held a slim advantage over the first 5:33 in the second stanza with a 9-8 margin to push the lead to 29-21. During the span, the Blue & Gold connected on 3-of-6 attempts from long range. The Explorers pushed their lead to 35-24 at the half after closing the second frame with a 6-3 scoring differential. La Salle held Coppin State to just 1-of-11 from the floor in the second.
  • The Blue & Gold kept up the pressure to open the third quarter with a 9-6 advantage over the first 5:05, including a 9-2 spurt over a 2:22 span. All nine points came from C. Jacobs. The Explorers ended the frame outpacing the Eagles 9-3 for a 53-33 lead.
  • La Salle sealed the victory with a 22-16 advantage in the final quarter for its largest win of the season. Seventeen of the 22 points in the period came from freshmen.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Jacobs' 26 points came on 8-of-14 (57.1%) shooting, 3-of-7 (42.9%) from long range, and 7-of-8 (87.5%) from the line. She also added five rebounds and a career high five steals in 24 minutes of play.
  • Rookie Jaye Haynes eclipsed the double-digit point plateau for the second time in her short career with 10 points on 4-of-9 from the floor. The Fort Washington, Pa. native corralled a team high seven rebounds and added three steals.
  • Junior Molly Masciantonio finished with eight points and three rebounds.
  • Rookies Morgan Adams and Kayla Richardson each contributed seven points – both career highs. Adams was 3-of-5 and Richardson was 3-of-3.
  • Senior Kate Hill finished with six points, six assists, and just one turnover.
  • In total, 11 Explorers scored a point, making it the fourth time this season 10 or more recorded a point in a game. At least nine have registered a point in every game this season.
  • La Salle outrebounded Coppin State 39-37 and held a +10 turnover margin.
  • The Blue & Gold shot a season high 41.8% from the field, adding 30.3% from deep, and 81.8% from the line.
GAME NOTES:
  • C. Jacobs makes it four of five this season with 16+ and 14 of her last 15 games with 10+.
  • Richardson's points were the first of her career.
