Men’s Basketball Drops Midweek Meeting with Richmond

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University men's basketball team dropped a midweek Atlantic 10 Conference meeting with the Richmond Spiders from Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday, 74-47.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Spiders pulled ahead by five early on until junior David Beatty knocked down a three-pointer to make it a two-point game, and less than two minutes later redshirt junior Scott Spencer tied the game at 13 all with a three of his own.
  • After Richmond regained the lead, 15-13, the two teams went on a scoring drought that lasted over four minutes. But then the Spiders scored the next seven points to go on top by nine, forcing the Explorers into a timeout.
  • La Salle came back within three, 24-21, on a bucket by sophomore Ed Croswell with 5:05 remaining in the half, but Richmond scored the final 11 points of the period to enter halftime with a 35-21 advantage.
  • The Spiders extended their scoring run into the second half, stretching their lead to 24 before freshman Sherif Kenney ended the run with a three-pointer three minutes into the half.
  • Richmond would go on to lead by as many as 32 points and never let up the rest of the way, improving to 18-6 overall and 8-3 in the A-10.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kenney led the Explorers with 14 points and two steals, while Croswell finished in double figures for the sixth straight game with 10 points along with seven rebounds.
  • Richmond held a major advantage in points in the point with a 44-16 margin led by Grant Golden's game-high 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
